Sports Moments Vs Famous Art Mash Up 2010-2017

MASH UP ART VS POP CULTURE

Art Vs SportBall! Mash up 2009-2011

I love going to museums and art galleries. I don't spend nearly enough time there as I want to nowadays. As artists, we are also trying to push our creativity. (I'm trying to figure out the next big idea, we're all trying to get famous here!). I began reflecting on how different crowds of people react to different things. You think of a crowd at an art museums or gallery vs how fans react at sporting events. Don't get me wrong, I love sports. It's big, it's in your face, it's every where. You see millions of people celebrating all over the world, but the the art world is very niche. What if the art world was as big and over the top as our culture is for professional sports? What if art was put on the same pedestal as Michael Jordan, Tom Brady or Cristiano Ronaldo? Imagine filling up a basketball stadium to watch Jackson Pollock and Paul Pierce during a one on one abstract paint party? This idea inspired me to these create mash-ups. Famous artists and their artwork vs sports photography on the internet.

Video Game Vs Thrift Store Painting 2016-2017

I took a few years off from this idea and decided to venture back in 2016/2017. I took a different take on my mash ups this time. I focused my paintings primarily on imagery from video games and tv shows. I used thrift store paintings as the backdrop for the fight scenes. While I had several other similar pieces, the work wasn't documented before they found their new homes. Note to future self- take more photos.
