Portrait Negative Transfer 2009-2010

Experimental Portait Negative/Postive Transfer

  • Breakdown of Ideas

Right after I guarted from Rmcad I applied for a scholarhip to stay addtioanl semester to focus on getting my body of work complete and the goal was submit an applications for a masters program (Shout out to Rmcad for the opportunity and Irrne Mckary for letting me learn from her) This series of work happened by complete accident. I runined a bunch of flim from my pin hole camera and left one of my paintings on a light box in the dark room I glanced over at the light box before turning in for the eveung  and noticed my painting could be transparent like my negatives.   I could use my drawing and painting to create photos. This inspired my series and to this day I still process experimental photo from paintings/drawings.

I treat my Paintings and Drawings like giant negatives. Exposing them just like you would a negative under the enlarger. This series explores all the different results from my transfers.

    Breakdown of ideas:

Right after I graduated from Rocky Mountain College of Art + Design, I applied for a special grant that allowed me to stay for an additional semester. My main focus was to get my body of work completed and applications done for a Masters program. *Special Shout out to RMCAD for the opportunity, and Irene McCray for accepting me into the mentor program*.

This series of work happened by complete accident. I ruined a bunch of film while developing photos from my pinhole camera. One of my paintings was on top of the light box in the dark room. I glanced over at the light box before turning off for the evening and noticed how transparent my painting is under the light. Instead of focusing on pinholes to create photographs, I could use my drawing and painting to create them.

I processed my paintings and drawings like giant negatives. I exposed them just like you would a negative under the enlarger. This series explores all the different results from my transfers.
